Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Juanita (nee Cordova) and Colby Carter.Her father is of English and Scots-Irish heritage, and her mother of a family that hails from Mexico, is of Mexican, Spanish, and French descent. She is the sister of Vincent who is a brother and Pamela and Pamela, who are sisters. Carter aged five made her debut on public television at Lew King's Talent Show. Carter joined a band called Just Us during high school. The band played a marimba, conga drum as well as an acoustic guitarist and a stand-up basses that was played by another girl from the group. Lynda started singing in a pizza shop when she was 15. After age 16, Lynda teamed up with two cousins in forming another group, The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer of the band. The group opened in the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months as Carter was not yet 21 years old, she must have entered through the kitchen.Carter went to Arizona State University. After being voted "Most talented" and then dropping out to pursue a career in the field of music. Carter auditioned for The Garfin Gathering in 1970. She went on the road together with Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first show together was at the Holiday Inn Chinatown, a San Francisco hotel so new that it didn't have a sidewalk access. They played mostly to hotel guests and staff, who parked their vehicles underground. The Garfin Gathering performed shows throughout the Nevada "Silver Circuit", including in several casinos in Nevada. Carter left the Garfin Gathering for acting, and returned home to Arizona in 1972.
