JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch-singing singer well-known for her smooth, mellow singing voice and her smooth, languid contralto she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955-1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" the song she premiered in her debut album. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her role in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year career in acting began on film in 1944 and included roles as the female lead in several westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional career as a musician. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she co-starred with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
